7 tips for a summer excursion with children in the Vogtland

The Vogtland is a particularly diverse region and offers a lot of variety and many exciting things to discover, especially for children. In today's blog post, we present seven tips for an excursion with children that you can do (not only) during the summer vacations.

Off to the summer resort - bathing fun in the Vogtland

Swimming is a popular activity, especially on hot days. The Pöhl dam, the Pirk dam, the Zeulenroda dam and the Untreusee near Hof are just the place for water lovers. All lakes invite you to enjoy a variety of bathing fun - swimming, boating or just letting off steam.

Excursion to the Pöhl dam

If you don't fancy a dip, you can try out the climbing course on the Pöhl, at Untreusee and in Zeulenroda. In Zeulenroda, there is also the Waikiki bathing world for the not-so-hot days. And at Untreusee you can make your way through a labyrinth.

In search of Justus the dragon

Take a trip to the underground Syrau Dragon Cave. Numerous bizarre rock and clay formations can be admired here. The highlight is certainly the crystal-clear lake.

In the summer months, there is a laser show with every guided tour, which bathes the stalactite cave in a magical light. And perhaps Justus the dragon will also emerge from his hiding place. In any case, the stalactite cave is ideal in warm weather, as it is always pleasantly cool underground.

Big things very small - in the Klein Vogtland miniature railroad in Adorf and at the garden railroad on the Kuhberg

Since 1995, the "Klein-Vogtland" miniature exhibition in Adorf has been delighting visitors of all ages from April to October. In the park-like grounds, you can marvel at 80 true-to-original models of Vogtland sights. The tour makes you feel a bit like Gulliver on his travels through Lilliput. In just a few steps, you can walk from one place to another as if you were wearing seven-mile boots. There are bridges, churches, lookout towers, castles and fortresses and numerous other striking Vogtland buildings to discover. So you can travel through the entire Vogtland in a single day. All models impress with their exact realization. You can see the buildings in a completely new light. The models are almost all on a scale of 1:25 and very true to the original.

The botanical garden is connected to the "Little Vogtland" miniature world. In the different seasons, the flowering season of the high mountain plants changes the face of the garden again and again. They show how beautiful and varied nature can be even in the barren landscape of the high mountains.

Extra tip: The Adorf forest pool is located right next to the Miniature World. On warm days, you can refresh yourself immediately after your visit with a dip in the cool water.

A very different kind of miniature layout can be found on the Kuhberg at the foot of the Kuhberg tower near Brockau. A garden railroad makes its rounds here. Among other things, it passes a model of the Göltzschtal bridge.

Excursion with children - A ride on the park railroad

The Syratal leisure center is located in the middle of Plauen, not far from the city park. There are a wide variety of activities on offer here. Since 1959, the only park railroad has been running through the park using an overhead line. The circuit is over one kilometer long.

But that's not the only attraction: children from the age of 6 can drive mini cars around a 4000 square meter traffic course, equipped with traffic lights, traffic signs and crossroads. For parents traveling with very young children, there is the Big Jeep, which adults are allowed to drive.

There is also a petting zoo, a mini golf course and trick pin, a mixture of mini golf and bowling, where balls are thrown and rolled around a course. We didn't try it, but it sounds great fun.

Another park railroad in Vogtland awaits young and old in Gera. The train starts its journey through Martinsgrund very close to the zoo. The train even crosses two small bridges.

The dream of the vast expanses of space

Which child would
wouldn't like to fly into space one day. This dream comes true in the
Space exhibition in Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz quite a piece
closer. In Morgenröthe-Rautenkranz, the first German
Cosmonaut Sigmund Jähn was born here. So it stands to reason that a
exhibition on the subject.

The exhibition deals with manned and unmanned space travel. You can marvel at spacesuits and get an insight into life on board in the training module of the MIR space station. An exciting piece of space history comes to life here.

The planetary system is also set up in the outdoor area. Another great way to pass the time is the space playground in front of the museum building, which can also be entered without paying admission.

Discover Posterstein Castle as a lady of the castle or a knight

At Posterstein Castle, little explorers can learn a lot about life in a castle. The children's castle is a very special concept that runs through the entire exhibition. Black knight figures or wooden cubes show the way and explain exciting questions about life in the castle to the little knights and damsels.

How heavy is a knight's helmet? How does a knight go to the toilet? Did knights go to school? What was a princess allowed to do 200 years ago? These are just some of the questions that the little explorers, equipped with a treasure map, will discover. And of course the children can also dress up as a knight or princess and explore the castle in proper style.

A great concept that shows that a museum can be suitable for children and doesn't have to be boring. Parents can explore the museum with their children and everyone can see the castle through their own eyes.

During the summer vacation
the children's castle will be complemented by an exciting vacation program
accompanied.

It is also exciting to climb up the tower, from where you can view the surroundings. The preserved dungeon is also very exciting and interesting for knights and damsels. Posterstein Castle is a real experience for little explorers.

The wild animals
on the trail

There are four animal parks in the Vogtland region for anyone who wants to spend a good day with animals. The Vogtland animal parks are located in Gera, Klingenthal, Falkenstein and Hof. There is also a beautiful animal enclosure in the Werdauer Forest in Waldhaus near Greiz, which can be visited free of charge.

All four are of a manageable size and pleasantly small. One of the advantages is that you can get quite close to the enclosures so that young visitors in particular can marvel at the animals. The entrance fee is reasonable and young visitors won't get bored easily. The petting zoos, which can be found in each of the zoos mentioned, are certainly a special attraction. In any case, a visit to the zoo is always a worthwhile experience.

Numerous benches invite you to take a short break in all zoos. Here you can pass the time comfortably.

The animal enclosure in the picturesque Waldhaus settlement near Greiz is particularly beautiful. The extensive grounds are always open and can be visited free of charge. The large enclosures are primarily home to native animals such as the Thuringian forest goat, fallow deer, mouflons and the Coburg fox sheep. The animals can also be fed. The appropriate feed is available from the feed dispenser. Unfortunately, the machine only takes 50 cent coins, so you should have enough change to hand for a trip. In addition to the animals, there is also a nature conservation information center to marvel at. The exhibition is constantly being updated and expanded and offers an interesting insight into local nature. There is a lot to discover here, and not just for children. If you fancy another hike, you can cross the nearby forest, where numerous paths invite you to explore.
