Easter trail in the Vogtland - perfect for an Easter walk!
Hardly any other holiday is as closely associated with a trip outdoors as Easter. Do you already have ideas for your Easter walk? How about a trip along the Easter trail in Vogtland?
From Berga to Greiz to Cheb in the Czech Republic, there are Easter delights to discover in numerous small and large towns.
Center of the Easter Trail: Berga in Thuringia
The idea for the Easter trail was born in 2000 during a family celebration and started small with the creation of Easter eggs. Ingrid Wiese - then a town councillor in Berga/Elster - and her brother-in-law, the mayor of Niederalbertsdorf, wanted to breathe new life into the former Wismut region after uranium ore mining ceased and offer women in the region in particular meaningful employment.
Inspired by Easter fountains in the Thuringian Forest, the now famous Easter trails were created with impressively designed Easter eggs and festively decorated fountains and crowns.
Highlights along the Easter trail
Berga is home to the largest Easter crown with over 16,000 Easter eggs. A total of around 35,000 Easter eggs and a wide variety of Easter decorations can be admired at five locations in Berga. This is complemented by a sales exhibition and a small Easter market.
In Greiz, the Easter eggs tie in with the town's rich textile tradition. Particularly worth seeing is the Easter crown on the tubular fountain on the church square, the decorated Lower Castle and an imposing 2×3 meter Easter bunny made of numerous Easter eggs, which welcomes visitors.
Other highlights include the Easter market at the Neumark estate, the Easter meadow in Wolfersdorf and the charming Easter bunny village of Waltersdorf, where 130 Easter bunnies can be discovered throughout the village. A visit to the village clubhouse rewards you with delicious homemade cakes.
Even towns outside the official Easter trail, such as Tirpersdorf, are now decorating their fountains and putting up Easter crowns again.
