Since September 2020, the Remtengrün district of Adorf has had its landmark back. The newly erected observation tower is the fourth tower to provide a view of the surrounding area at this location.
The history of the observation tower in Remtengrün
The first tower was erected in Remtengrün as early as 1880. It was a wooden tower, but unfortunately it only lasted a few years. Its successor was built in 1930. But it too had to be closed in 1952 due to dilapidation. It was finally demolished in 1961. The wooden tower built in 1993 did not last very long either. It was closed in 2017.
As the tower had now become an identifying feature, they did not want so much time to pass between demolition and new construction. In addition, this time they wanted to use a more weather-resistant material.
Futuristic new building
The new model now consists of 15 tons of steel and more than 1,700 screws and was inaugurated on 5 September 2020.
It is also visually very different from the wooden towers. The result is a futuristic tower that seems to reach for the sky. The tower is visually very successful and worth a visit for that reason alone. But the view from here is not to be sneezed at either.
After 95 steps, you reach the two-part platform and can see far across the Vogtland region. You can see Schöneck, the Ascher Bismarck Tower in the Bohemian Vogtland and even as far as the Leipzig lowland bay. Two telescopes bring the landscape even closer.
The tower in Remtengrün can be climbed through a turnstile after inserting a €1 coin. Please have a suitable coin ready, as it cannot be changed at the turnstile.
How to get to the Remtengrüner Turm
The tower is located on Turmweg in Remtengrün. There are plenty of parking spaces directly in front of the tower.
But of course you can also hike to the tower. An approx. 10-kilometre circular hiking trail leads from Adorf railroad station via the railroad path towards Siebenbrunn to Remtengrün to the tower and via the Remtengrüner Weg and later along the railroad embankment back to Adorf. During the season, you can also take a short detour to Klein-Vogtland and the botanical garden or visit the mother-of-pearl museum in Adorf.
Unfortunately, the former restaurant that once stood at the foot of the tower no longer exists. That would really be the perfect combination.

From the two-part platform, you can see as far as Schöneck, the Ascher Bismarck Tower in the Bohemian Vogtland and even as far as the Leipzig lowland bay. Two telescopes allow an even closer view of the landscape. Access to the tower is via a turnstile, which can be passed for a €1 coin.
